Tyler sipe | multimedia journalist
Hello! I’m Tyler Sipe, a Seattle-based multimedia storyteller and digital communications strategist.
My path to this career began early. As a kid, I skipped morning cartoons to watch the Today Show with Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley, which brought moments like the fall of the Berlin Wall and the 1989 San Francisco earthquake into my living room. It sparked my curiosity about the world around me and the many stories waiting to be told. That curiosity eventually led me to journalism through my middle and high school newspapers. Whether it’s asking questions and reporting, looking through a camera viewfinder, filming video, or digging into data and social media trends, I enjoy finding new ways to tell meaningful stories that resonate.
Today I lead digital and social media strategy, marketing, and communications for Seattle Channel, the City of Seattle’s municipal television station, helping connect residents with their city through video and social media platforms like Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Over the years I’ve worked across journalism—including print, radio, and television—as well as in nonprofit and government communications.
I’ve worked at The Seattle Times, NHK (Japan’s public broadcaster), the Traverse City Record-Eagle, and contributed to other outlets large and small, with my work appearing in publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Public Radio International’s The World, Interlochen Public Radio, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, and others.
I earned a BA in Journalism from Michigan State University and a Master of Journalism in Multimedia Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.
Outside of work, I’m a bit of a transit nerd. You’ll often find me exploring my favorite city—and hometown—Seattle by bus, train, and foot.
